Personally, I have always been “a loner.” I’m very self-sufficient in keeping myself motivated and driven to get things done. Quite simply, when I see something I want, I go after it with the eye of the tiger. With that being said, recently, I have come to a new realization … when you utilize a buddy system you are far more likely to dig deep and give that extra 10% to push past any thresholds of pain. I came to this conclusion after coaching a Bombshell Super Camp this past weekend. Not only did I have a blast hanging out and working alongside my fellow IFBB friends, but I met a lot of amazing women who were attending the camp.

Most campers were aspiring competitors, but there were a few that were there just to get healthier. Their determination had an extreme impact on me. As I coached these women through gruelling plyometric routines, leg and shoulder workouts, I witnessed a fire that was so familiar. It was so gratifying to see how much support each person had for the others success. “You can do it”, “almost there”, and “come on girl” were common phrases heard amongst the numerous teams consisting of approximately 20 girls.

As the weekend came to an end, everyone attended a banquet cheat meal to celebrate each others' successes and completion of their hard work. What seems to amaze me the most is how 150 girls, from opposite ends of the world, can come together for a 48-hour period and feel as if you have known each other since birth! My point in sharing all of this with you is to encourage you to find a support system. Whether it’s a group from your local gym or a team like Bombshell, the support and encouragement that comes from each other will help you achieve whatever goals you have set. Not only will attending boot camps help you learn new techniques and/or improve the ones you already use, but nutritional guidance is usually provided. After all, you can’t out train a bad diet! In addition, many boot camps present guest speakers that offer a wealth of information from media suggestions to the latest fitness innovations.

It’s evident that feeling and looking great are results of competing but the friends that you make along your journey, in the end, are the real prize.
