What You Need to Know About Alkaline Water
Why staying hydrated with alkaline water is the key to looking and feeling your best
As I round the corner of the last four weeks of prep before the Arnold Sports Festival, I make every effort to rid my body of toxins and keep hydrated. One of the ways I do that is drinking alkaline water. Here, I share with you some of the benefits of drinking two bottles of alkaline or ionized water daily.
It’s important to find the correct acid-alkaline balance in your body. pH balance is measured on a scale from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral, higher numbers alkaline and lower ones acidic. When the pH of the body gets out of balance (too acidic), we may experience low energy, fatigue, excess weight, poor digestion, aches and pains, and even more serious disorders. This is considered to be acidosis. One of the several ways to become acidic is eating too many acidifying foods like processed sugar, meats, dairy, coffee, alcohol. These foods can overload the body and make it difficult to neutralize them. To reestablishing an acid-alkaline balance one should begin with building proper diet and nutrition as a daily lifestyle and by making sure to be properly hydrated.
Tap water, in most cases, is considered neutral. However, you would be surprised that independent studies indicate that it’s actually below neutral. While true alkaline water has a pH of 7.2 or above, the exact pH can vary depending on the brand of equipment used to alkalize the water. Home systems that alkalize only have a life of 24-48 hours using the filtration system. Although proper hydration can be obtained through tap water, most public water supplies are loaded with hazardous contaminants, such as disinfection byproduct and pharmaceutical drugs to name a couple.
There are several options available to neutralize water one of, one of which is purchasing expensive equipment to attach to your kitchen sink as mentioned above. My personal preference however, is to drink Hydrolyze Ultra, which is a one of a kind clustered water and alkaline base.
Alkaline water benefits include:
- Helps prevent chronic dehydration
- Enhances metabolic efficiency
- Improved nutrient absorption
- Supports immune functions
- Improves hydration of the cells
I always drink a bottle in the morning while doing my cardio. It’s amazing how much more refreshed and energized I feel when the sweat is pouring out of me. I drink my second bottle following my evening workout with my postworkout supplements, which include glutamine and branch chained amino acids. The clustered effect helps my body to better utilize more of these nutrients in a more effective way. So, with that explanation what are you waiting for? Get your hydration on!
