A simple smile can improve your health, your mood and your results in the gym
Not only does it feel great to be in a good mood, but this positivity also acts as wonderful brain food. There is no question about it: being happy feels so much better than being blah. When you are feeling uplifted, you have a much better outlook on all foreseeable tasks. You become much more ready and willing to tackle all of your activities for the day, making you more productive and efficient. So putting on a happy face, even if you have to fake it at first, will actually help you to go that extra mile in your day.
The benefits of feeling joyful extend beyond the mental perks and motivation to get things done. Research has shown it also does wonders for your physical wellbeing. In our body, we have what are called “natural killer cells,” those cells that are designed to attack and kill abnormal cells (cancer cells, for example). Studies confirm that negative emotions like worry, fear, and stress can actually weaken those natural killer cells. So, the unhappier you are, the more you weaken your immune system. On the flip side, the happier you are, the more you give these natural killer cells a boost and thus, the stronger your immune system. The healthier your immune system, the better you’re able to perform physically. That’s a definite plus for you in the gym!
