Q: I am following one of the diets I found in Hers to lose body fat for the
summer. I'd like to also use a fat burner to help. However, I am very
sensitive to caffeine and other stimulants. Are there any fat burner
supplements that I can take that won't give me the jitters, but will still
help me drop body fat?
A: There are several supplements you can take together that will help you
shed body fat without giving you the jitters. The omega-3 fats in fish oil
have actually been found to help burn body fat. Take 1-2 grams with meals
two to three times per day. Another healthy fat you can take is conjugated
linoleic acid (CLA). Research shows it can help you simultaneously drop body
fat while increasing lean muscle mass and strength. Take 1-2 gram with meals
two to three times per day. Also take 1-2 grams of carnitine as either
L-carnintine or L-carnitine L-tartrate with breakfast, pre and postworkout
meals and dinner. This supplement helps to transfer fat into the
mitochondria of cells, where it is burned away for fuel. In addition,
consider using soy protein in your pre and postworkout shakes as well as in
between meal shakes. Soy has been shown to enhance fat loss, particularly
from the abdominal region.
