Diet Buster: Popcorn

On its own, it’s fine. But add loads of butter and you may as well be eating Fritos

Diet Buster: Popcorn

Why it’s bad: Popcorn is generally considered a healthy snack food, but microwave varieties are often smothered with copious amounts of butter. If you wanted to munch on 12 grams of fat, you could have just eaten that bag of potato chips. And forget movie-theaters — those bags contain enough grease to give you a Mohawk.

Replace with: Choose either the “light” microwave version or use a retro hot-air popper and do it yourself. Unlike the super oldfashioned stovetop method, you don’t need oil to pop your kernels this way, and you can mix in your own healthy portions of toppings afterward if desired. Try it with peanut butter or nuts for a healthy fat alternative to butter.
