Go Bananas in the Gym
Not crazy about sports drinks? Nibble on a banana instead.
Researchers from the North Carolina Research Campus pitted sports drinks against the yellow fruit, then asked a group of cyclists to either drink a cup of a sports drink or eat half a banana every 15 minutes over the course of two intense cycling races. Blood samples were taken before and after both races, and the bananas matched the amount of energy-fueling carbohydrates normally found in sugary sports drinks—while also providing antioxidants, fiber, potassium, and vitamin B6.
