green teaGREEN TEA: Health Super Hero
Green tea—which boosts metabolism, mood, and can even make skin appear smoother and younger—has yet another benefit to add to its superior nutritional resume. A new study from China has found that the “miracle drink” can also improve memory and spatial learning. The researchers found that ECGC (epigallocatechin-3-gallate), a key property of green tea, boosts the production of neural progenitor cells. When the ECGC was given to mice, and the creation of these cells was increased, the mice showed signs of greater memory and spatial learning based on tests and obstacles set up by the researchers. The next time you’re feeling a little foggy-headed, try swapping green tea in for coffee.
