Low-Calorie Surprise: Almonds
Almonds bring you joy? Now you can enjoy more for fewer calories!
Are almonds your go-to protein snack? You’re in luck: A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reports that the ubiquitous nut contains approximately 20% fewer calories than originally thought. Scientists have long believed that the fat in almonds is not 100% absorbed during digestion, which reduces its caloric impact. The clever almond has been blessed with a cellular structure that encap- sulates the fat, thereby impeding absorption. So a handful of 23 almonds actually has around 129 calories versus the 160 that’s currently printed on the packaging.
