Recent research also found that cherries provide anti-inflammatory benefits, and can help repair muscle strain and damage. “Athletes should be made aware of these benefits so they can include [tart cherries] as a natural recovery aid after workouts,” says dietitian Amy Shapiro, M.S., R.D., of Real Nutrition NYC.
