Want to lose fat and boost muscle mass? Make sure you get your vitamins and protein, suggests a study from Purdue University (West Lafayette, Indiana). A greater intake of whey protein, calcium and vitamin D resulted in reduced accumulation of bodyfat and increased lean mass in mice, regardless of the number of calories they ingested from fat or sugar, according to a study published in Nutrition Research.

What can you do? Although this study was performed on mice, the advice is relevant. Consuming whey protein can increase muscle mass, while taking calcium and vitamin D helps protect your bones. So really, how could you go wrong?
