What’s In Your Water?
Alkalized water has become popular in health nut circles, but many skeptics question its claims

What does this “base” water actually do for you? Do you really need it? Recent research does show an improvement in hydration status and pH balance in the blood and urine of subjects drinking alkalized water. Since many individuals following a Western diet high in meats, cheeses and processed foods and low in fruits and vegetables have shown chronic lowgrade acidosis (associated with higher disease risk), it’s supposed that alkaline supplementation should combat this unfortunate American condition, in addition to assisting recovery from intense exercise. One word of caution however: drinking alkalized water can promote water retention, a highly unwanted side-effect right before a figure competition.
