In the news of late is the subject of trans fats being banned. Some food manufacturers are turning to palm kernel oil as a replacement, but this saturated fat extracted from the nut of the kernel of palms has many of the same characteristics of hydrogenated fat - meaning it's not much better than trans fats. (By the way, palm oil isn't the same thing; it comes from the pulp of the fruit of the African palm.

Although it's a bit better than palm kernel oil, it's still heavy in sat fat.) When combing grocery-store shelves for snacks and treats, be a label reader and put back any items that contain these oils. Your body, inside and out, will thank you.
